The reading
A hookup track that keeps admitting the loneliness underneath the swagger, where wanting someone and wanting to send them home are the same impulse

Ava Bently's Daddy Issues: Swagger with the Lights On
"Daddy Issues" sells itself as a bragging hookup anthem and then quietly undercuts that promise every time the verses come back around. The hook is blunt about what the narrator wants; the verses are blunt about why he can't quite get there alone.
The opening lines set the whole dynamic in miniature. He's tired of the arguing and fantasises about buying her a flight back to her father's house, then immediately reverses himself: he would rather have her than the empty apartment. That swing, from wanting her gone to needing her present, is the song's engine. He admits he gets "too cautious" without her, which is a strange word choice for a track this cocky, and it's the first sign that the confidence is a posture.
The second verse drops the posture almost entirely. He's back to being alone, wondering who she's with, admitting he never wanted feelings and isn't good at apologising. The line about being "used to being a lone wolf / Rolling with a few homies" reads less like nostalgia than like an obituary for a self-image that no longer fits. He notices, plainly, that the old arrangement "ain't enough for me" anymore. That's a real admission, and the song earns the hook by making it first.
Then the hook lands, and the register flips. "She a nympho, I wanna fuck" is deliberately flat, transactional, almost a shrug. Asking for her info, asking what she wants to get into, framing her interest as "daddy issues": the whole chorus is the narrator pulling the shutters back down after the verse cracked a window. Calling out her daddy issues is also a tell. He's naming her wound rather than his own, which the verses have already spelled out: the loneliness, the caution, the inability to apologise. The projection is the point.
The third verse pivots to movement and hardware. He pulls up in a Chevy with his "Nina" (a Nina Ross, i.e., a 9mm) at his side, ready for whatever function. It's the most conventionally rap-swagger stretch of the song, and it functions as armour between two more revealing moments. The detail that another woman "put a lump in my throat" is buried in the middle of the flex, easy to miss, and probably meant to be.
The bridge is where the song stops pretending. "Baby girl, you know I love it / When you lie to me" and then, more starkly, "Dead inside, feel alive / When you lie with me." The pun on "lie" (deceive / lie down) does a lot of work in very few words. He prefers the fiction to the alternative. He needs the body next to his to feel anything. This is the thesis the hook keeps trying to hide: the sex is a treatment for numbness, not a trophy.
Heard that way, the title reframes. "Daddy issues" is the accusation he keeps lobbing at the woman, but the song's whole first half is about a man who can't be alone in his own apartment and can't say sorry. The phrase belongs to both of them; he just gets to be the one holding the mic.
As a 2026 single, the track sits comfortably in a lineage of streaming-era rap-and-B where the flex and the confession share a bar. What distinguishes it is the sequencing: the vulnerable material comes first, the bravado arrives as a response, and the bridge quietly wins the argument. It's a short song, three minutes and change, but it keeps its structure honest. Whether it lasts depends on whether listeners hear the hook as the point or as the mask; the writing suggests the latter.

"Daddy Issues"
MTM, hit 'em with the heat
Sometimes I can't fuck with your bitching
Wanna buy you a flight
Send yo ass back to yo daddy house
So you can think twice
But then I switch up my emotions
Rather be with you than forgotten
I can't have this crib to myself
Without you I get too cautious
And now I'm back to being alone
Thinking about who you fucking with
Never wanted to catch no feelings
Not too good with apologies
I was used to being a lone wolf
Rolling with a few homies
Who had my back and wanted the best for me
Now I see clearly it ain't enough for me
She a nympho, I wanna fuck
Baby, let me get your info
Let me know what you wanna get yourself into
Yeah, I know that you got some daddy issues
She a nympho, I wanna fuck
Baby, let me get your info
Let me know what you wanna get yourself into
Yeah, I know that you got some daddy issues
Pull up in a Chevy, now I'm ready to go
I got my Nina by my side, you know she ready to blow
From side to side we got it jumping, every function we go
I can't pay no mind to no hoe, that put a lump in my throat
5'5 take a lot to get a rise from me
Bending corners in my coupe
I know they eyeing me
Baby girl, you know I love it
When you lie to me
Dead inside, feel alive
When you lie with me
She a nympho, I wanna fuck
Baby, let me get your info
Let me know what you wanna get yourself into
Yeah, I know that you got some daddy issues
She a nympho, I wanna fuck
Baby, let me get your info
Let me know what you wanna get yourself into
Yeah, I know that you got some daddy issues
