Good Day 2025: A Variety-Show Singalong Against a Cold World
A collective response to a chilly year
Good Day 2025 is less a song than a happening. It is a mash-up cover of two Korean standards, the 1980s pop tune commonly known as Telepathy and the older folk-pop ballad By the Moonlight Window, performed by a cross-generational cast that includes G-DRAGON, TAEYANG and DAESUNG of BIGBANG, CL, aespa, DAY6, BSS, actors like Hwang Jung-min, Jung Hae In, Yim Siwan and Kim Go-eun, and variety personalities such as Defconn, Jung Hyung-don, Hong Jinkyung, Kian84 and Cho Saeho. The framing device is spoken at the top: the world has gotten cold and short on affection, so a bunch of people got together to make a killer song about it. That opening ad-lib tells you how to hear everything that follows.
The track opens in banter mode. Kian84, Defconn and G-DRAGON trade lines about the world lacking warmth ("정이 없다"), then G-DRAGON slides into English hype: telepathy is the code, we're staying alive, it's Good Day. The looseness is the point. Rather than polishing the intro into a proper verse, the producers keep the studio chatter, so the listener feels dropped into a room where friends are goofing around before singing.
Telepathy, updated
The first full section is a cover of Telepathy, sung largely by the actor-and-variety contingent. The original's conceit survives intact: two people so attuned that a glance, a brush of sleeves, or a fingertip is enough to transmit feeling. The call-and-response asides ("여기요," "앗 뜨거!") turn what was once a straight love song into something more communal and comic, aimed less at a romantic partner than at everyone in earshot. When Hong Jinkyung, Anh Sung-jae and Yim Siwan land the hook ("아하 러브 텔레파시"), the joke and the sentiment sit on top of each other. The bit about a strong beam of light striking the heart, handed to BIGBANG and Lee Soo-hyuk, is played with a wink but still carries the original tune's earnest jolt.
By the Moonlight Window, handed off
G-DRAGON's "Turn it up" pivots the medley into By the Moonlight Window, first through BSS and CL, then aespa, DAY6 and Kim Go-eun. The imagery here is older and gentler: a single rose wrapped in paper, a lover waiting day after day at a window that will not open, moonlight used as a knock on the door. The Good Day crew's refrain ("오오오 내 사랑") stretches this into a group chant about opening the window to the breeze, riding a moonlit smile, and dreaming a sweet dream of happiness. In the second pass the lyric is nudged toward the project's title: since the window will not open, the singers will simply spell it out, G.O.O.D.D.A.Y, and make the day good themselves.
That small rewrite is the thesis. Where the original song waits passively for the beloved to answer, the 2025 version proposes agency. If nobody opens the window, you name the day good and sing it into being. The closing verse widens the target from a single love to family, friends and partners all at once, and the final murmurs ("모든 날이 굿데이였다," every day was a good day) suggest the whole exercise was really about learning to notice.
Why it works as a 2025 artifact
The track sits inside a Korean tradition of variety-show ensemble singles and holiday all-star cuts, where the roster is part of the meaning. Pairing G-DRAGON's return-era swagger with two songs your parents know, and letting comedians share mic time with idols and film actors, is a bet that intergenerational familiarity can do emotional work that a new original could not. The line spoken near the end, that music can turn an ordinary day into a special one, is the mission statement stated plainly.
Whether it endures beyond the year of its release is an open question. As a piece of pop craft it is deliberately messy, and much of its charm depends on knowing who is singing which line. But as a snapshot of a moment when a lot of famous Koreans agreed the culture felt cold and answered with two old melodies and a shouted spelling of GOOD DAY, it is a document worth keeping.
